These are excellent specs for the MacBook Pro, but if you can wait
for another year, you might thank yourself when the 2016 MacBook Pro
releases, and here’s why.
The 2016 MacBook Pro will no doubt include yet another performance
boost over the 2015 model, but that’s not the main reason as to why you
should wait for the next refresh. The real reason is because of the new 12-inch MacBook that released earlier this year.
The new MacBook doesn’t take on the “Air” or the “Pro” suffix, as
it’s an all-new laptop that stands alone in Apple’s hardware lineup. It
comes with an extremely thin frame with an all-new keyboard, as well as
the new USB-C port. Plus, it comes in iPhone and iPad colors: Space
Gray, Silver, and Gold.
However, what’s perhaps the most interesting feature is that the
entire laptop only has two ports: a USB-C port and a headphone jack. The
USB-C port also doubles as the laptop’s charging port, and users can buy an adapter that expands the capabilities of the MacBook’s USB-C.
The limited number of ports on the new MacBook certainly isn’t a bad
thing, and I think it’s a crystal ball into the future of Apple
computing. Plus, it could also give us a hint at what Apple might do
with the MacBook Pro next year, which is why it might be a good idea to
wait until the 2016 model releases.
It’s very possible that the 2016 MacBook Pro could see a big redesign
with an even thinner body than before, but it’ll be interesting to see
where Apple draws the line between performance and size. The MacBook Pro
is meant to be a workhorse for professionals, so it needs to be
powerful and have enough room for high-end components.
Ports is another thing that could see a change in the 2016 MacBook
Pro. Again, most professionals who use MacBook Pros need all those
ports, but Apple might at least change those around a bit. For instance,
instead of having the power port, two Thunderbolt ports, two USB ports,
HDMI, and SD card slot and a headphone jack, Apple could slim it down
to a couple of USB-C ports, a headphone jack, and maybe keep a
Thunderbolt port for the power users.
Of course, this isn’t saying that all of the features of the new MacBook will eventually come to the MacBook Pro, but it seems likely that Apple is moving in that general direction at least.
In any case, it’s certainly time that Apple give the MacBook Pro a bit of a redesign, considering it’s had the same look and feel since 2012. With that said, 2016 could be the perfect time for Apple to seriously update its workhorse laptop.
